Back in December, as I was preparing for a brief island holiday, I managed to sneak in this article for The Conversation, called ‘Ten great Australian beach reads set at the beach‘. While it is by no means a definitive list, it certainly includes some that I think are really significant beach books but also ones that showcase some of the diversity of beach writing in Australia.

I spent a week on holidays at the beautiful Hamilton Island, and managed a brief jaunt to Whitehaven Beach – considered one of Australia's most spectacular beaches. And it looked amazing, even on a gloomy day. I took a book with me, although I didn't get a chance to read it there – too distracted by the stunning location! … If you need something to read this holiday season, here's something I wrote for The Conversation: https://theconversation.com/ten-great-australian-beach-reads-set-at-the-beach-108083 . It doesn't include every book about the Australian beach, but hopefully there's some interesting ones in there!
The piece was republished elsewhere, including in The Guardian, and was a good inspiration to crack down on the manuscript for the upcoming edited book I’m working on (with my co-editor Donna Brien) called Writing the Australian Beach: global site, local idea.
